Question
16.5 x 2400 = 2/3 x ? (canara bank 2010)
A.588 B.594 C.592 D.590 E.582
1st proces
Do normally, Multiply 16.5 and 2400, divide it by 100 for the % symbol, then multiply by 3 and divide by 2 to get 594.
2nd process
Get 165 x 2400 by faster multiplication techniques of a three digit number multiplied by a three digit number followed by M. TYRA QUIKR math book(highest level book for bank exam published by banking services chronicles) and solve but the calculation is still tough and the bank paper can never be solved in time.
3rd process
16.5 = 16 + .5 = 16 1/2
Now multiply 16 and 24 its 384 and then 1/2and 24 that is 12.
Add 384 + 12 = 396
Then get the answer its 392 x 3 / 2 = 594
4th process
We know 16.5 % = 1/6(very closely)
Now the question is 1/6 x 2400 = 2/3 x ?
Answer is 600.
But we manipulated something which is smaller than the actual value so answer is smaller and closer to 600, just tick 594
5th process
(Copyrighted concept)
Does not require any mathematics or mind, a kid can also answer in some seconds
Get the digit sum of 16.5(forget the decimals and % symbols)
Digit sum means in 165 just add 1 + 6 = 7 then add 5 to it 7+5 =12, finally 1+2 = 3 or normally add 1+6+5=12, then get 1+2=3.
Its simple just go on adding in any order you like and finally club the figures to get a single digit, so if its 12 then it becomes 1+2 = 3
Get the digit sum of 24(forget the zeroes), its 2+4 = 6
Multiply the digit sum of 16.5 i.e. 3 to this i.e. 6 as they are in multiplied form in the question
So 3 x 6 = 18, digit sum is 1+8 = 9
So the net digit sum of 16.5 % of 2400 is 9
Take the question like this
16.5 % of 2400 x 3 = 2? (I have just cross multiplied)
We got the digit sum of 16.5 % of 2400 as 9, now multiply it by 3 i.e. 9x3=27, digit sum is 2+7 = 9
This is the net digit sum of the question, the answer must have digit sum 9.
Go to the options and check the digit sum of every option
Options
A. 588 digit sum is 5 + 8 + 8 =21, digit sum is 2+1 = 3,not 9 so wrong
B. 594 digit sum is 5+9+4=18, final digit sum is 1+8 = 9, its 9 so correct
C.592 digit sum is 5+9+2 = 16, final digit sum is 1+6 = 7, not 9, so wrong
D.590 digit sum is 5 + 9 + 0 = 14 final digit sum is 1 + 4 = 5, not 9, so wrong
E. 582 digit sum is 5+ 8 + 0 = 13, final digit sum is 1+3 = 4, not 9, so wrong.
